Dick Hay

Co-Owner, Medical Director, DVM, DABVP

Dr. Dick Hay is the co-owner and Medical Director at TotalBond Veterinary Hospital at Davidson. He was born and raised in Toccoa, Georgia, a small town in the Northeast corner of the state, and obtained his BS from Davidson College in 1977. He spent his junior year of college studying in France and considers it one of his defining college and life experiences. He continued his studies by earning a Masters of Science degree in Comparative Physiology and spent two years as a research assistant in the Small Animal Medicine Department at the College of Veterinary Medicine at the University of Georgia. It was during his studies there that he fell in love with the profession and went on to obtain his Doctor of Veterinary Medicine degree from the same school in 1985. Dr. Hay became a Diplomate of the American Board of Veterinary Practitioners in 2000 as a specialist in canine and feline medicine and surgery. He enjoys all aspects of general practice, especially the relationships between pets and their owners.

In recent years, Dr. Hay has become interested in Integrative Medicine and has pursued his certification as a Veterinary Acupuncturist. His wife Pam is a retired college professor at Davidson College and they have two adult children. Dr. Hay is active in several community organizations including the Davidson Housing Coalition and the Davidson Lands Conservancy. When not at work, his favorite pastimes are hiking and traveling.

Emily Belyeu

DVM

Dr. Emily Belyeu is the newest Veterinarian with TotalBond Davidson. Dr. Belyeu received her Doctorate of Veterinary Medicine in 2016 from Kansas State University College of Veterinary Medicine. Since graduation, she has worked as a small animal general medicine practitioner. Her areas of professional interest include dentistry, nutrition, geriatric medicine, and humane end-of-life care.

Growing up, Dr. Belyeu worked with an equine veterinarian taking care of standardbred racehorses and breeding stock. She was inspired to work in the veterinary field from her passion for animal care and pursuit of continuous personal growth and development while in the field. Dr. Belyeu loves being a part of the veterinary community and helping build relationships between her patients and their owners.

Dr. Belyeu grew up in Portland, Maine, but now lives in sunny North Carolina with her husband, children, Great Dane, and two retired standardbred racehorses!

Áine Schanche

VMD

Dr. Áine Schanche is an Associate Veterinarian at TotalBond Veterinary Hospital at Davidson. Dr. Schanche earned her Bachelor of Science from Swarthmore College in 2016 and earned her Doctor of Veterinary Medicine from University of Pennsylvania School of Veterinary Medicine in 2020. She joined the TotalBond family in 2021, primarily working at the TotalBond at Bethel hospital. Her areas of professional interest include ultrasound, surgery, and preventative care. Dr. Schanche was inspired to join the veterinary field after spending several weeks shadowing mixed animal veterinarians in Ireland and falling in love with the unpredictable, rewarding field! According to Dr. Schanche, the best part about being a veterinarian is being able to educate clients on how they can help their pets live the healthiest lives!

Although Dr. Schanche grew up in northern New Jersey, her mother is from Ireland and her father is from Norway. Dr. Schanche keeps busy outside of work by playing with her 6-year-old standard schnauzer named Siggi and her corgi/mini aussie puppy named Suki. She also enjoys spending time with her family, eating good food, hiking, exercising, reading, and hanging out with her friends. She is a proud member of the TotalBond Team and cannot wait to meet everyone's fur babies!

Mabel

Treat Inspector

The growing demand for ensuring quality control of our hospital's dog treats has enabled us to create a new position on our team, the treat inspector. Mabel Hairr has accepted the tall task of taking on this role, as she so humbly tests each and every kind of treat we give out to our patients to ensure both safety and palatability. Mabel is a boxer mix who enjoys spending her days exercising, sleeping, and getting love from all of her coworkers at TotalBond. We are almost as excited as Mabel to have her in this new position!

Suki

Hospital Morale Booster

Suki is a wild, confident, spry little lady who is still figuring out her full personality as she is still just a baby. The TotalBond at Davidson staff will determine what role she is best suited for as she grows up - we are very open to any suggestions from the community! Suki lives with Dr. Schanche and Siggi and she has become a source of great entertainment for the TotalBond family throughout the day (mostly at lunchtime!). We are looking forward to see how she develops and solidifies her position with the TotalBond crew!
